written by Loretta Limon
"This glorious flag ceremony was held following a fun loving annual parade. I was fortunate enough to take part. As I stood shoulder to shoulder with the others gripping our flag, person after person came up and asked if they could just slip a hand through to touch the flag so that they would have the memory of being a part of the event. Thomas Jefferson's eloquent words from The Declaration Of Independence were read. I do hope everyone there really listened to those tremendous words and made a promise to live by them. "WE HOLD THESE TRUTHS TO BE SELF-EVIDENT, THAT ALL MEN ARE CREATED EQUAL, THAT THEY ARE ENDOWED BY THEIR CREATOR WITH CERTAIN UNALIENABLE RIGHTS, THAT AMONG THESE ARE LIFE, LIBERTY, & THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS" An unforgettable Fourth of July."

Transfer of April 23, 2013

Assemblyman Pete Goicoechea, R-Eureka, introduced legislation in February to shift control of the Belmont Courthouse State Historical Site from the Division of State Parks to Nye County. The 136-year-old courthouse is off U.S. Highway 376 about 255 miles northwest of Las Vegas. Both the state and Nye County agree on the transfer.

4th of July 2012

On the Fourth of July 2012, Friends of the Belmont Courthouse made their debut in Belmont, Nevada. Board members and volunteers joined a large group of celebrators by putting an entry into the parade, opening the courthouse for tours, and set up a booth to give out information about the future goals to repair the courthouse, preserve local history, and encourage membership in the group.

John King and his wife, Pat, set up an excellent display of John's photos of Nevada in the courtroom. Proceeds from sales of the photos will help with the restoration of the courthouse. This display was on loan from the Nevada State Museum.

Volunteers of all ages and sizes worked for days to get the courthouse ready for tours. An Americorps volunteer came out from Maryland to get the grounds and building in great shape. High school students worked alongside grade school students and adults to sweep the floors, move furniture, help with tours and lend a hand wherever needed. Everyone stepped back with pride when the doors were opened for the first tour of the day on the 4th of July. They all had a sense of pride and accomplishment of a job well done and a feeling that they were helping preserve a bit of history in Nevada

Currently the courthouse is being re-roofed to save the inside and protect it from the elements. The windows and doors need to be replaced and are on the list of repairs as soon as funding is available.

The Friends of the Belmont Court House are seeking donations, grants, and memberships to provide funding to accomplish its goals. Great involvement and effort will be needed to keep the courthouse standing and save a piece of history. Please join the group in preserving a worthwhile bit of Nevada history.

People are encouraged to contact the group and offer support. - Some Photographs of the event Here.
